IBTS answered a question of Lyme Chat - Éire and EuroLyme :
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service does not test donations for Borrelia burgdorferi, the agent that causes Lyme Disease.
There is no test that is licensed for blood donor screening purposes.
We are not aware of any blood service that tests donations for the agent that causes Lyme disease.
There are no reports in the literature that suggest that Lyme disease has ever been transmitted by blood transfusion.
Donors who are unwell are not accepted to donate.
If a donor has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, he will not be accepted to donate until he has completed a course of antibiotics for a minimum of one week and has made a complete recovery for a minimum of 2 weeks.
A donor who knows that he has chronic Lyme disease will not be accepted to donate.
